Island Vir - archipelago of Zadar   

Island Vir is one of 300 islands and islets of Zadar archipelago. It is situated in a north-west side of Dalmatia and one of 1189 islands and cliffs in Croatian Adriatic sea. Vir is situated on the north-west part of Dalmatia. From the north toward west and south, Vir is surrounded by islands and islets: Pag, Maun, Planika, Olib, Ist, Molat, Sestrunj, Rivanj and Ugljan. Many sea-ways near to Vir leads to Rijeka, Italy, Zadar and south to Split and Dubrovnik. Along the indented coast of Vir there are pebbly and sandy coves partly situated near pine groves and surrounded by crystal clear sea waters, making this island a perfect place for a family holiday.

Island Vir is situated in a north-west side of Dalmatia, 26 kilometers from Zadar. 1976. was connected to the mainland by a bridge.

Numerous bays and inlets with piers enable the yachting visitors to go ashore on their way in the string of 300 islands and islets towards the National Park Kornati.

Besides bathing, surfing, sailing and other water sports, those who prefer hiking can admire beautiful view which can be seen from the highest top of the island (Bandira, 112m), wanderers will enjoy the breathtaking panorama across Vir to the surrounding islands and the Velebit (1750m). Those of you who like mountain-biking we also recommend this area. The place Kozjak and beach Sapavac contains old historical castle named Kastelina and peloid mud - it health reumatic symptoms. Because of its location, Vir is perfect for excursions, for example in national parks: Paklenica, Kornati, Krka and Plitvice. Also you can visit ancient town Nin with the smallest Cathedral in the world - Church of the Saint Cross, and the 3000 years old town Zadar with many historical monuments and the first sea-organ pipe in the world (built 15th April 2005.).

Holiday accommodation is offered exclusively on a private basis: family boarding-houses as well as private rooms and apartments. Big hotel settlements you won‘t find on Vir. Restaurants and caffes with shaded trraces, supermarkets, various shop, ambulances and post office are completing the offer.
